Hardware Engineering Lead
Hydro Electronic Devices, Inc. (HED) is seeking a Hardware Engineering Lead to join our team in Hartford, Wisconsin.


Position Summary

  • Assures the highest quality new hardware product development through the application and continuous improvement of HED and industry standards for design, testing, and validation prior to market or customer release
  • Develops and implements a hardware technology roadmap and product development process that ensures rapid time-to-market of new products using leading edge technology and industry best practices to coincide with customer and market demands 

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops HED hardware design standards to meet customer and compliance to Industry Standard specifications of electronics hardware, assemblies and/or subassemblies and other design methodologies to ensure the highest quality and consistency across all developments
  • Recommends and assists with the implementation of new tools to increase efficiency and support standardization while maintaining lean standards and time-to-market sufficient to remain at the industry lead
  • Ensures proper peer reviews and DFMEAs are conducted on all new developments
  • Ensures rigorous application of hardware revision control
  • Builds and assures proper cataloging and storage of a library of reusable hardware standard circuits and circuit designs to minimize development time-to-market and assure high quality through standardization of thoroughly tested hardware products
  • Works with Project Managers and Product Support and Validation to ensure proper testing, validation, and documentation of all hardware products to established design criteria
  • Assists Project Managers with enforcement of development process standards such as APQP – ensures tasks are completed for one development stage prior to continuing to the next
  • Assures optimal design-to-cost, design for assembly, and design for manufacturability
  • Lead or participate in Return Material and Root Cause Investigation and Analysis
  • Participate, support and suggest product cost reduction initiatives
  • Leads hardware team and participates in hardware design and development to meet design and performance specifications established by the both Internal and/or External customers to meet established project timelines and deliverables
  • Create or assist development of support documentation including standard circuit designs, technical data sheets, bills of material, user manuals, and product validation and production test plans
  • Create hardware LOW level drivers for PCB firmware functionality and check-out
  • Develops technology roadmap for how to achieve best in class hardware code while minimizing the time-to-market for new hardware releases
  • Coordinates with Product Management to ensure that technology roadmap enhances and supports the Product Plan for new products
  • Manages hardware design engineers; final decision maker between competing development methodologies
  • Assists with resource allocation

 

Requirements

  • College degree, preferably EE major (BSEE)
  • Minimum 7 - 10 years experience in design and/or development role for an industrial / Electronics Company servicing the OEM market.
  • Leadership: 3 - 5 years experience in leading Hardware development teams and/or new product development teams; good communication skills
  • Must have proven ability to design microprocessor based controls, assemble prototypes, test the product and generate complete documentation, including schematics.
  • Must have a working knowledge of real-time embedded controls and hardware programming including assembly and high level programming languages like “C” language.
  • Design experience should include analog and digital electronics in both thru-hole and surface mount PCB technology.
  • Knowledge and experience with process management, problem root cause analysis and continuous improvement including:
    • DFMEA
    • Design of Experiments (DOE)
    • Product issue resolution &Corrective Actions
    • Lean Process
    • Six Sigma
    • APQP
    • SIL
  • Ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interface successfully with customers, influence others and excel in a matrix environment is a must
  • Proven excellence in verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

 

 

Software Engineer

Hydro Electronic Devices, Inc. (HED) is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team in Hartford, Wisconsin.

 

Position Summary

  • Ensure all software designs meet or exceeds customer (internal/external) specifications.
  • Provide added Value thru Quality, Cost and Delivery efforts unmatched in the industry that position HED® as the supplier of choice for electronics
  • Adheres to the HED® Quality Management System (QMS)

 

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment to develop software requirements, architecture and structure for new or enhanced products.
  • Design, modify, develop, write and implement software programming applications conforming to HED® QMS to meet product requirements
  • Design and perform verification testing on products and sub-assemblies to confirm hardware and/or software performance to design standards, goals, and specifications
  • Identify, track, and correct software defects
  • Use tools such as emulators, debuggers, oscilloscopes to debug and verify proper operation of system software
  • Work on special projects as dictated by the needs of the department.
  • Ensure Product compliance to adopted Company/Industry Standard specifications for Software quality
  • Create and maintain product documentation such as technical data sheets and manuals
  • When necessary will travel to the customer’s site to commission and/or troubleshoot products. This may involve travel by plane and/or automobile, and may include overnight stays
  • Remain current in new software engineering technology and best practice through study and continuing education

 

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Computer Literacy. MS Office experience preferred.
  • Good organizational capability with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on and complete multiple tasks in a timely fashion
  • Knowledge of standard programming concepts, practices and procedures
  • Good communication skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Embedded Software skills:
    1)  Proficient in with C or C++
    2)  Knowledge of working with hardware, schematics and datasheets

 

Relationships

  • Support production with first runs
  • Support product validation and support with testing and releases
  • Supports RMA Department to facilitate defect identification, root cause and documentation
