Essential Job Responsibilities:

 
  • Build and lead technical teams through new product development from concept into production using HED's phase-gate NPD process.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules to meet or exceed milestone and deliverable date commitments.
  • Develop and maintain product and project costs to deliver products within budget.
  • Deliver high quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Provide technical assistance and act as liaison between Engineering, Business Development and the end Customer.
  • Lead technical teams through incremental product improvements.
  • Maintain Engineering Change Notices (ECN) for assigned products.
  • Support production and sustaining engineering efforts for assigned products.
  • Manage customer prototype deliveries for assigned products.
  • Act as  primary engineering contact for assigned products.
  • Manage engineering resources to ensure completion of milestones and project deliverables including product requirements, DFMEA, design reviews, design verification, product validation and put-to-production.
  • Ensure product compliance to Industry Standard specifications of electronics hardware, assemblies and/or sub-assemblies.
  • Practice Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Practice Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • Use computer software tools to perform engineering tasks, including project scheduling, resource assignment and leveling.
  • Hold design reviews and document results.
  • Design, develop, maintain & utilize best practices to promote consistency and Standardization
  • Continuously improve products and processes.
  • Resolve all outstanding product issues prior to product release.
  • Provide status updates as required to communicate progress to all stakeholders.
  • Aid in collecting VOC (Voice of the Customer) needs and converting into technical requirements.
  • Aid in the development of product test plans that are directly traceable to the product requirements.
  • Participate/Contribute in Product/Process development
  • Ensure and maintain proper product documentation:
  • Participate/Contribute and suggest product cost reduction initiatives.
  • If necessary, travel to the customer’s site, to commission and/or troubleshoot products. This may involve travel by plane and/or automobile, and may include overnight stays.
Technical skills /
Competence required:
  • College degree, preferably EE major (BSEE)
  • 5 - 10 years of  experience in design development and/or management role for an industrial / Electronics Company servicing the OEM market
  • PMP Certification desired
  • Must have proven ability to manage projects to Quality, Cost and Delivery targets
  • Experience with APQP or other NPD process
  • A working knowledge of real-time, embedded controls is desired
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Project and other MS Office products
  • Knowledge and experience with project and process management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement including:
    o          DFMEA
    o          Design of Experiments (DOE)
    o          Product issue resolution &Corrective Actions
    o          Lean Process
    o          Six Sigma
  • Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Requires demonstrated ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills; Demonstrated ability to interface successfully with customers, influence others and excel in a matrix environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Relationships:
  • Provide assistance to Business Development in developing formal responses to customer requests for product quotations (RFQ)
  • Work with Applications Engineering to manage and resolve customer issues.
  • Works with Quality Assurance to resolve quality issues
  • Works with Return Material Department to facilitate defect identification, root cause analysis and documentation
  • Assist with the transition of prototype hardware and software to Production
  • Provide assistance and technical expertise as required by Customer
